Also known as: parachute jumping

So, skydiving. Something that has been on my mind for some time and since I’m a lousy blogger has happend quite some time ago (about 3 weeks). I like things that give an adrenaline rush and was hoping skydiving would do just that. -it does-.
The way to get it is simple. Register, go there, pay and follow the instructions. First they got me into a ‘nice’ skydiving outfit. Since they didn’t have so many and I’m an averages sized guy the outfit for average sized guys were all gone. Nice. So I got one that was for very tall guys. Not perfect, but who really cares… I wasn’t there for the clothing anyway.
The instructions were simple. Sit still in the plane right before the guy that has experience. Ah, that is something that is a bit less. It’s a jump with someone else. Makes sense though. Anyway, sit still, wait till he gives instructions to move towards the door, get out of the door, putting your legs as far as possible under the plane, why getting your head backwards to the shoulder of the one that jumps. At that point I was hanging more out of the plane than in, but the great moment comes just then. You get out of the plan falling towards Earth. 🙂 THAT IS GREAT. From 9.000 feet (3km) up to 5.000 feet (1,6km) it’s free fall all around getting to a speed of about 200km/h you can’t hear anything but wind and seeing the Earth under you getting closer. The free fall takes about 30 seconds that seem to last far less, unfortunately. After that the experienced jumper tapped my sholder signalling he would open the parachute. A lot of resistance is shortly felt when you slow down because of the parachute. After a mere 4 minutes of easily floating down it’s over.
Getting instructions and waiting: 30 minutes
Going up in the plane and wait for the appropriate altitude: 15 minutes
Free fall going down: 30 seconds
Floating down with the parachute: 4 minutes.
The part that actually matters is the 4:30 minutes and it rocks! I wouldn’t do it again soon though. I’ve done it now and that’s that. The very nice experience, but lack of desire to do it very often makes this to have a rating of 4/5.
Next on my list: bungee jumping.
