The influence of good hosting
In my previous blog about downtime and environment I wrote about the negative effects of bad hosting. By now all the sites have been transferred to a Cloud VPS Server from XLS Hosting. The higher price is completely worth it, so I can write happily about the effects of changing host.
So, what happend before the rankings were lost
We were on #7 before rankings were lost completely. In the meanwhile we continued improving the site. I’ve added content to the site and we gave serveral blogs information. That got us a backlink in very relevant content. Rankings continued to be crap though and we didn’t get back.
At the moment I’m happy. Rankings are a bit unstable, but stabilizing. The day we got back we got back at #7, just as before. The same day we went to #6, #5, #4, #3 and eventually #2. This happend all over hours. Within 12 hours we were on #2. The days afterwards we moved from #2 to #3 and about five times in a single day. The day after that it moved less, but mainly at #2. Then back on #7 and #2 again. Anyway. we moved a lot. Now, after a bit over week of being back in rankings we are on #3. Being back better than ever before.
What did we do to come back strong
Mainly, we didn’t stopped improving the website. Not before we found the problem, not while we found the problem and neither did we stop improving the site while we were solving the problem. Specifically, but in no particular order:
- adding content to existing pages;
- adding new pages with content;
- delivering articles to blogs and other sites (with an inlink to our site);
- improving the site optically;
- improving the internal linking;
- changing to a good hosting party;
- moving the sites to the new host;
- changing the DNS servers so the sites became active on the new host.
As said before, we’re back in business and better than before. I’m absolutely positive that the new server has a positive influence. The problem with the bad neighbourhoud is solved and the site speed has incleased a lot. So, if you have problems with your site and suddenly lose rankings, take your hosting in account. Downtime, bad neighbourhood, both? Different (better) hosting might be your solution too!
